What should I wear, and what should I avoid?
What you wear plays a big role in the overall look and feel of your photos. I always recommend avoiding clothing with large logos, heavy patterns, or graphics, as they can be distracting and take the focus away from you.
When choosing colours, steer clear of bright or neon shades, as they don't tend to photograph well. Instead, opt for timeless, earthy tones like whites, creams, sage green, dark green, denim, navy, browns, and tans. These colours photograph beautifully and create a cohesive, natural look.
Before your session, I also recommend removing fitness watches and emptying your pockets to avoid unnecessary distractions or bulges in your clothing.Most importantly, wear something that feels like you. My goal is to help you choose outfits that reflect your personality while also giving you the best possible outcome in your photos. If you're deciding between a few options, I'm always happy to help!
I've never had professional photos taken before. Will you help me?
Absolutely! Most of my clients tell me they feel nervous before their session, and that is completely normal. Being in front of a camera can feel intimidating (especially when you suddenly forget what to do with your hands the second a camera is pointed at you. I promise, you're not the only one!)
You don’t need to know how to pose or have any experience in front of the camera. That’s my job! I’ll guide you through poses, expressions, and movement throughout your entire session so you never have to worry about feeling awkward or unsure of what to do. I’ll give you direction when needed, while also creating space for genuine moments and connection to naturally happen.
My goal is to make your session feel relaxed, fun, and comfortable from beginning to end. I want you to leave thinking, “That was actually so much easier than I expected,” while walking away with photographs that feel confident, authentic, and completely you.
Do you choose the best photos, or do I choose my favourites?
I carefully select and curate the final images from your session to ensure your gallery reflects the best moments, expressions, and connections captured. As your photographer, I’m looking for the images that tell the story of your session while considering things like lighting, composition, emotion, and the overall feeling of the moment.
Rather than having you sort through hundreds of similar images, I take the time to hand select the strongest photographs that represent our vision and the experience we created together. Every image delivered is intentionally chosen and professionally edited to create a beautiful, cohesive gallery that feels true to you.
My goal is to provide you with photographs you’ll love, not just because they look beautiful, but because they bring you back to the memories and emotions of that moment.
What if my kids (or partner) don't cooperate?
Don’t worry!! This is one of the most common concerns I hear before a session! The truth is, we can’t force anyone to smile, sit still, or do something they aren’t comfortable with, no matter their age. And honestly? Some of the best photos often come from the moments that weren’t perfectly planned.
My approach is to create a calm, low pressure environment where everyone feels comfortable. I’ll gently guide you throughout the session, but if something isn’t working, we won’t force it. Instead, we’ll redirect, try something different, and find an approach that feels more natural for everyone involved.
Kids have their own personalities, and partners may not always be the biggest fans of being in front of the camera (don’t worry, I’ve worked with plenty of reluctant photo subjects!) My goal isn’t to create a stiff, perfect image, it’s to capture the real connection, personality, and moments that make your family or relationship unique!
